Join us in Brussels for the final conference of project PARTICIPATE: two days dedicated to research, policy, and practice in the field of cyberbullying prevention and intervention.
The conference will bring together researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to reflect on the project’s key messages, present its practical tools, and introduce the research results developed across the network.
Two days, two complementary focuses
Day 1 – 11 June 2026
PARTICIPATE messages for policy and practice
The afternoon of 11 June will focus on the practical and policy-facing dimension of the PARTICIPATE project.
After a welcome and introduction by Prof. Debbie Ging, participants will be introduced to the practical resources developed through the project, including toolkits designed to support parents, practitioners, schools, and other stakeholders in preventing and responding to bullying and cyberbullying.
The session will present three PARTICIPATE toolkits:
- From Bystanders to Leaders: Parents in (Cyber)Bullying Advocacy,
- Enhancing School-Parent Collaboration against (Cyber)Bullying,
- Digital Literacy Toolkit for Parents.
These resources translate project insights into practical guidance for advocacy, school-parent cooperation, and digital literacy support.
The afternoon will also include a policy session exploring the implications of PARTICIPATE research for policy and practice. This cross-sector dialogue will bring together project researchers and work package leaders to discuss how evidence can inform concrete responses to cyberbullying, support prevention, and strengthen collaboration across education, policy, family, and professional contexts.
Day 2 – 12 June 2026
Introducing the PARTICIPATE research results
On 12 June, the conference will continue with a full day dedicated to PARTICIPATE research findings, community responses, and lessons from the field.
The day will open with a keynote by Prof. Audrey Bryan, Responsibility or Responsibilisation? A Social Cartography of Bullying in Algorithmic Times, followed by sessions presenting research on online bullying involvement, marginalisation, conflict between children, and the consequences of bullying for young people.
The programme will also explore whole-community approaches, with particular attention to the role of parents and schools, as well as social interactions in the age of algorithms. The afternoon will conclude with a panel on methodologies and lessons from the field, bringing together Doctoral Candidates from across the PARTICIPATE network to reflect on research processes, findings, and implications.
This day is particularly relevant for researchers, doctoral students, academics, policymakers, practitioners, and all those interested in the latest evidence and perspectives emerging from the PARTICIPATE project.

Arriving by air
If you are arriving at Brussels Airport, there are two main options:
1. Bus 12 to Maelbeek
Take bus 12 from the airport to Maelbeek. From there, the hotel is about a 3–4 minute walk.
Tickets can be purchased from the machines at the bus stop. You can also buy a ticket from the driver, but it is more expensive. The machines accept card payments only.
The bus journey takes around 30 minutes.
2. Train to Brussels-Schuman
Take a train from the airport to Brussels-Schuman. From there, the hotel is about a 5–6 minute walk.
The train is faster than the bus, with a travel time of around 15 minutes, but it is more expensive and less frequent.
If you accidentally take a train to Brussels Central via Brussels North, you can still reach the hotel by taking the metro for three stops to Maelbeek.
If you are arriving at Charleroi Airport, take a Flibco bus to Brussels Midi, then continue by metro.
Arriving by train
If you arrive by IC train, get off at Brussels Central. From there, take Metro 1 or 5 to Maelbeek Station. The journey is three stops.
If you arrive by Eurostar or another high-speed train that stops only at Brussels Midi, take Metro 2 or 6 to Art-Loi/Kunst-Wet. From there, the hotel is about a 6–7 minute walk.
If the weather is bad, you can change at Art-Loi/Kunst-Wet to Metro 1 or 5 and continue one stop to Maelbeek.
